Kansas City, MO is a huge metropolis that covers northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. The city's economy was historically known for being the third largest beef capital in the nation. Today the economy is thriving and extremely diversified and even has an official international trade zone. Also known as the City of Fountains and the Heart of America, KC has a growing population, currently estimated at 2,015,282 as of 2005. Kansas City's status in the world continues to excel, so much that The Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network recently nominated Kansas City to have world city status potential.
Employment and Internships
Kansas City has one of the most important economies in the region. It is home to six Fortune 1000 companies as well as many other large corporations. Employers in Kansas City include American Century Investments, Aquila Inc., Hallmark Cards, H&R Block Inc., Kansas City Southern Industries, and Russell Stover Candies. Business students will find a great deal of internship and employment opportunities with these and other Kansas City employers.
Business and financial occupations in Kansas City have a bright job outlook through 2012 according to the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center. Business operations specialists will see a growth of 17.9% new jobs; general operations managers will experience 10.84% additional jobs; human resources managers will have 9.30% additional opportunities; and financial management opportunities anticipate a 10.64% growth in new opportunities.
Education
Educational options are numerous in Kansas City as well. One such option is the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration which offers degree programs for undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students. Academic programs include Accounting, Business Administration & Management, Business Law, Economics, Finance, Management Science, and Marketing.
Some other options are Rockhurst University's Helzberg School of Management, which offers students BA and MBA programs. Some specialties offered are General Business Management, Health Care Administration, and International Business. Additionally, the Avila College Business and Economics Department offers degrees in Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Marketing, Merchandising & Retail, and Personnel Management.
Financial Aid
Financial aid for business students in Cleveland include traditional scholarships such as the Bryon L. Schaller Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards a minimum value of $500 to Missouri students planning on attending a college or vocational schools. Additionally, UMKC offers its own institutional scholarships to students including the Ralph O. Linville Scholarship, which awards $1200 renewable, based on financial need.
Other options include loans, grants, and work studies that often come from the government such as the Pell Grant, the Federal Plus and Federal Stafford loans. These can be applied for by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can also find additional financial aid resources at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation.

Kansas City offers business students a booming economy full of opportunity in addition to countless attractions to enjoy. Moreover, a wide variety of educational options ensure that students varying interests will be met accordingly. This makes Kansas City a great place to study business.
