Lying on the Ohio River and having a metropolitan area covering 15 counties, Cincinnati was once known to have an economy based on river commerce and trade. Today, it is a key retail, wholesale, and manufacturing hub boasting strong business, financial, and healthcare industries. “Cinci” is steadily growing, now having an inner-city population of around 300,000 and having a much larger metropolitan population; it shows no signs of decline. The city exports products including jet engines, machinery, software, financial services, and various other consumer goods. In addition to all of this, the city features a well known zoo, more than 100 museums and art galleries, numerous parks, and professional sports teams, providing recreational activities for all.
Employment and Internships
The economy in Cincinnati is strong and continually expanding as it is home to several Fortune 500 companies. Some of the area's largest employers include Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, American Financial Group, Cinergy, Fifth Third Bancorp, Federated Department Stores, and the Cincinnati Financial Corp. These companies provide internship and employment opportunities for students and graduates alike.
The occupational outlook for business and finance in Cincinnati through 2014 appears to show steady growth according to the Ohio Workforce 411. Overall business, management, and financial occupations will see 17.0% more jobs. Business operations specialists will have 19.1% additional opportunities. Operations managers will experience a 10.7% growth in jobs. Financial managers anticipate 12.1% additional jobs and human resources managers' will experience growth of 11.4% more job opportunities.
Education
Business students are presented with a large selection of educational opportunities in Cincinnati.
