Positioned at the front of the Rocky Mountains, Cheyenne once had an economy heavily reliant on cattle. Located only 90 minutes north of Denver, CO, it was once considered just another town of the “Wild West”. Today, the city is recognized for its role as a major transportation hub and developing center of commerce. Cheyenne is a picturesque city that prospers thanks to its booming logistics industry, which in turn spurs on a growing business and financial industry. The metropolitan area has approximately 83,000 residents; the small population and growing economy mean plenty of employment opportunities in the future.
Employment and Internships
The business industry in Cheyenne is growing at a fast pace. The areas largest employer is the F. E. Warren U.S. Air Force Base, as well as other government jobs. Some business employers in Cheyenne are United Medical Center, Union Pacific Railroad, Echo Star Communications Corp., and Lowe's Companies, Inc. Students will be able to find internship and employment opportunities with these and other companies in the area.
Those in Cheyenne seeking employment in the business industry are in for some good news; the occupational outlook through 2012 is good! Business operations specialists can expect to see 18.3% more jobs; human resources managers' opportunities should grown by 9.8%; general and operations managers will experience 25.3% more jobs; and financial managers will see 16.6% additional opportunities. In business and financial industries altogether, approximately 18% more job opportunities are expected.
Education
Cheyenne provides many educational opportunities for students. CollegeAmerica's Cheyenne Campus offers flexible class schedules and an accelerated “Fast Track” which enables students' degree completion in a shorter period of time. Areas of study include Accounting, Business Administration, E-Commerce, and Health Care Administration.
Other educational opportunities wait for students at Laramie County Community College, with a focused Business Training and Development Department and offering bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Management and Entrepreneurship amongst other specialties. Another option is the University of Phoenix – Cheyenne Campus, where students can earn degrees including an MBA in Business Administration and Management. The nearby University of Wyoming, in Laramie, offers degrees in Economics/Water Resources, Finance, and Marketing.
Financial Aid
Financial aid options for business students in Cleveland are readily available. One such option is scholarships. They Wyoming Department of Education's Hathaway Scholarship provides a great example. Available to Wyoming residents attending any public college in the state, the fund awards up to $1600 per semester based on academic merit and financial need. As well, the University of Wyoming awards numerous scholarships each year to business students to assist with tuition expenses as well.
In addition, school financial aid offices offer many other options to students. Laramie County Community College provides financial aid to students via grants, work study, part time student employment, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Pell Grants, Perkins Loans, Stafford Loans, and more. For federal aid, students can apply by filling of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) form online.
Summary
Cheyenne provides students with a variety of educational opportunities in addition to many recreational activities thanks to its location near the pristine Rocky Mountains. Combine this with the growing economy and it shows why Cheyenne is the perfect place to study business.
