Surrounded by greenery and foliage, it's no surprise that Boise – which means “wooded” – has been nicknamed the City of Trees. The city offers residents an array of recreational activities as it is a regional hub for arts, theater, and music. In addition, Boise offers many activities to those that love the outdoors, featuring the Boise River and a 25-mile greenbelt lush with vegetation and abundant in wildlife along the riverfront. With a population of almost 200,000, this capital of Idaho has a booming economy. It is home to several major corporations emphasizing large business and high-technology sectors.
Employment and Internships
Boise has been rated the 4th best place for business and careers by Forbes Magazine. In addition, Boise ranks 8th for job growth out of 150 metropolitan areas in the United States. As well, those who live in Boise have benefited from a steadily decreasing cost of living. Employers in the region include Micron Technology, Washington Group International, Hewlett-Packard, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, and Albertsons, Inc. These are some examples of a variety of businesses in Boise offering jobs and internships to students.
The occupational outlook for business professionals in Boise looks good through 2012, according to Idaho Commerce & Labor. Overall business, management, and financial occupations will experience 26.84% new job opportunities. Business operations specialists will have a 30.91% job growth. General operations managers will see 25.71% additional jobs. Human resources managers' opportunities will grow by 16.67% while financial management opportunities will grow by 14.29%.
Education
Boise presents business students with numerous educational opportunities. A prime example is Boise State University College of Business and Economics, offering students bachelor's and master's programs. Specific areas of study include Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, and Merchandising.
Other educational opportunities include the flexible class schedules of ITT Technical Institute School of Business – Boise Campus featuring Business Administration, Criminal Justice Administration, and Information Systems. Additionally, Stevens-Henager College – Boise Campus offers students an accelerated “fast-track” education in Business Management, E-Commerce, and Health Care Administration amongst other areas of study.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is readily available to students in Boise. Options of a traditional nature include student loans and scholarships. Boise State University provides an excellent example of scholarships. The school offers several scholarships for outstanding freshmen and transfer students, based on academic merit. In addition to school scholarships, many private scholarships are available for students to take advantage of. Examples of such scholarships include H. Brothers, Inc. Dollar Times Scholarship, Ayn Rand Institute Essay Contest, and David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships.
Several grants and loans may be obtained through the government. Students can apply for these by obtaining a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) from their school counselor or by visiting FAFSA on the internet.

The Boise area has a prospering economy, bursting with employment opportunities for young people. Combine this with the pleasant environment, numerous recreational activities, and educational opportunities in the area and it's easy to see why Boise is a great city to study business.
